Car Kits at Merlin Mobiles

On the 1st of December 2003 it was deemed illegal to use a ‘hand-held’ telephone whilst driving and if caught, the authorities would hand out a standard fine of £30. However, as of February 27th 2007, the penalty for using a ‘hand-held’ mobile phone whilst driving increased to £60 and the offender’s licence being endorsed with 3 penalty points which, if you need your driving licence for your livelihood could prove costly. The fines for drivers of heavy goods vehicles and passenger vehicles carrying 9 or more persons are far more severe. The law also states that the definition of driving is having your engine switched on, so be careful when parked at the side of the road making a call on your mobile phone.

What’s Legal and What Isn’t?   
The law states that “A ‘hand-held’ mobile telephone or other device is to be treated as ‘hand-held’ if it is, or must be, held at some point during the course of making or receiving a call or performing any other interactive communication function” So basically, you can’t speak, text, receive or send faxes, receive pictures or moving images or access the internet whilst in your car with the engine running. Hopefully common sense will prevail!

Most of the mobile manufacturers including Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson also produce their own Bluetooth hands free solutions and car kits and can be supplied by Merlin.
